Monterey and Carmel California Tour
Enjoy the scenic byway of the Pacific Coast Highway from the comforts of our luxuriously sized SUV. Take in the magnificent views of the surfers, sea otters, and coastal towns along side Highway 1 as we make our way to Cannery Row, in Monterey. Originally named Ocean View Avenue, and then made famous by John Steinbeck’s 1945 novel, Cannery Row, this quaint street in Monterey provides a fun, family-friendly atmosphere that’s sure to leave you feeling as though you’re back in the factory days of Lee Chong and Doc. Enjoy the fresh seafood by allowing us to suggest a restaurant that’s perfectly tailored to your taste buds, or visit the world famous Monterey Bay Aquarium (admission fee not included).
Let the succulent flavors of your lunch linger as we make our way through the beautiful little town of Pacific Grove an on to the 17 Mile Drive. The famous road winds its way between magnificent homes and the spectacular coastline, past the green fairways of world-renowned golf courses like Spyglass Hill and Pebble Beach and famous landmarks like the Lone Cypress tree. The drive concludes at Pebble Beach Village, where we can make a stop at the Pro Shop, or continue on to the enchanting town of Carmel-by-the-Sea.
Much like Cannery Row and Monterey, Carmel is also known for their historical value, marine life and natural beauty. Only a short, picturesque drive from Monterey, we’ll leave you to wander the boutique shops, art galleries and antique stores of the scenic town or curl your toes on the white sandy beach. If time and interest permit, we can visit the historic Carmel Mission (admission fee not included) and Bixby Bridge, one of the most photographed features of the West Coast because of its location along the scenic Central Coast. It won’t take long to understand why the likes of Jack London and John Madden call Carmel home, or why Clint Eastwood, once mayor of Carmel, also takes residence in this charming city by the sea.
On our Monterey & Carmel One-Day Tour you’ll visit Monterey Bay, 17-Mile scenic drive, drive through Pebble Beach & the picturesque Carmel-by-the-Sea.
The day will start by traveling south on the famous Pacific Coast Highway, California Highway 1 (fog permitting). After a short break along the way will continue on to Monterey Bay, a place of great historical, geological and biological significance. Monterey Bay was the site of the first Europeans to visit the land that became California and is home to an incredible abundance of sea life just off shore in the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, which borders 276 miles of California’s spectacular coastline.
We’ll arrive in Monterey’s famous Cannery Row for a chance to stroll among the shops and treat your taste buds to a fresh seafood lunch. Here you will see the beautiful Pier of Monterey with a chance to visit the Aquarium. Also spend time in the famous Cannery Row filled with luxury hotels and exquisite restaurants. Opt for a light lunch, or picnic lunch, and squeeze in a visit to the world famous Monterey Bay Aquarium (admission fee not included).
After lunch we’ll follow the coast through the beautiful little town of Pacific Grove on the way to the 17 Mile Drive, which will offer such picturesque scenery as magnificent homes, spectacular coastline, Spyglass Hill golf course, and one of the last remaining Monterey Cypress forests. These rare species of tree are sculpted by relentless pacific breezes into fanciful shapes, The Lone Cypress is a very poignant example. Hanging onto life (with the help human engineering, of late) in a seemingly impossible location, The Lone Cypress is a modern natural wonder of its own.
After passing by Pebble Beach Golf Course, we will arrive in Carmel-by-the-Sea, an enchanting town full of boutique shops and antique stores. If there’s still time left after a day of adventuring, we will take quick visit to the historic Carmel Mission (admission fee not included) before returning back to San Francisco and dropping you off at your hotel.
