Private and Guided Muir Woods and San Francisco Tours
Walk among the Giant Redwoods of Muir Woods in the morning and tour San Francisco in the afternoon. This Muir Woods & San Francisco Tour is a great mix of nature and culture. Muir Woods National Monument is located just over the Golden Gate Bridge and is home to some of the tallest species of trees in the world, the coastal redwood sequoias.
Our San Francisco-Muir Woods full-guided tour begins with a hike or walk while admiring some of the tallest redwood trees in the world. The tour also includes a stop at the Golden Gate Bridge and Sausalito as you return to the city. Once back in San Francisco, our guide will spend approximately 4 hours taking you around San Francisco ‘s most famous sights, as well as some of the not so famous hidden treasures as well. On this San Francisco tour, you will enjoy more stops and photo opportunities, and have more time at each attraction. After seeing the famous painted ladies at Alamo Square, or viewing San Francisco from above at Twin Peaks, you will go home feeling like a local, as you are sure to know San Francisco inside out by the end. This tour is great for those who want to discover hidden sights not included in other city tours or guidebooks, and feel free to request areas that interest you for a more intimate and personalized experience.
The day begins with a drive across the Golden Gate Bridge, which offers sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz Island, and the skyline of San Francisco. We wind our way through the coastal mountains of the Marin Headlands, along the base of Mt. Tamalpais (the highest point in the North Bay region) on our way to Muir Woods National Monument, where you will visit the coastal redwoods, the tallest tree species in the world. These trees only thrive in Northern California and Oregon, due to the thick fog that blankets the west coast in the summer months.
Muir Woods is the only surviving stand of old-growth forest in the Bay Area. Wandering amongst these towering giants, the sights, sounds and smells of this living museum are sure to reconnect you with a natural world that was almost lost forever.
From Muir Woods it’s a short drive to Sausalito, a picturesque town that starts with hilltop mansions and spills down to boutique shops and cafes along the waterfront. The pier offers a panoramic view of the San Francisco skyline, the Bay Bridge, and Angel Island.
Back in San Francisco, the tour will take you the most famous landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge, the exotic Chinatown, “Little Italy” North Beach, the Spanish mission “Mission Dolores”, the eccentric Castro neighborhood to Haight-Ashbury’s alternative population, the Palace Of Fine Arts, Coit Tower, Golden Gate Park, as well as more hidden sites that this beautiful town has to offer.
This tour is great for those who want to discover some of the hidden sights not included in other city tours or guidebooks! Feel free to request areas that interest you and our guide will try to accommodate your request. That’s the beauty of our tours: we offer the flexibility to partially customize the tour itinerary depending on your preferences. At the end of this tour, we will drop you back off at your hotel.
